‘Despite what Kourtney’s lifestyle looks like on the outside, and that it doesn’t always look like what we think a ‘Christian’ should look like,’ Jesus is so for her!’ says Rebecca Hunter-Kelm.
An episode of Catching up with the Kardashians now and then is one of my guilty pleasures, so when I saw a clip of Khloe asking her eldest sister, Kourtney, about her faith in God on her new podcast Wonderland, I decided that episode was worth a listen on my next walk.
The nature of reality TV means a whole level of candidness about the billionaire tycoon’s lives, and on the podcast Kourtney Kardashian shares openly about her wedding to Travis Barker in 2022, how they blended their families of seven children, and how they conceived their son, Rocky, naturally a year after trying IVF. Kourtney acknowledged that for her, ‘Once I was able to let go of all that and just trust in God, it happened.’
Kourtney shared how much faith plays an important role in her life and that people are usually surprised by the fact she reads the Bible every day
Kourtney shared how much faith plays an important role in her life and that people are usually surprised by the fact she reads the Bible every day (I was surprised too when I saw Kourtney posts from her devotional on her Instagram stories).

Kourtney also said she has been trying to gather some of her local friends to do a Bible study. She said to Khloe: ‘which I think would be amazing for the adults. I would love it. I told you that I want to do it with you.’
I mean, let’s stop right there! Kourtney is actively inviting her sister and friends to read God’s word with her, could this be going beyond a privatized faith or merely cultural Christianity? This sounds like a genuine desire for God’s word to shape lives, and I think this is brilliant.
Kourtney also mentioned visiting a new church, so I hope she did. I pray that she can find a spiritual home that looks beyond her name and accepts her into God’s family. A place where she can grow in her faith as a disciple of Christ.

Khloe asked if Kourtney’s husband, Travis, was on the same page when it comes to faith and if he was on his own journey. (Fun fact: I’m a massive Blink182 fan, and I used to pray for the band all the time when I was a teenager!).
‘I feel like we both are and I feel like we say prayers together when there’s something coming up. I mean, I say the kids’ prayers every night. If there’s something that that they might be anxious about at school or something, we’ll pray in those moments, pray before flights or travel together as a family.’
When I heard this, Philippians 4:6-7 immediately came to my mind: ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’
This is a verse that I rely on every single day, especially now my own children are getting older and have worries of their own that I want to help them bring to the Lord.

I think it’s fantastic that Kourtney is setting the spiritual thermostat of her household in this way. She is laying a foundation for faith in her children’s lives, and I pray God continues to draw her and her family to Jesus.
Kourtney talks about starting to pray too: ‘I think the more you talk to God, the louder you’ll start hearing him. Because at first you’re like, well, okay, like it’s so awkward or weird, it’s just foreign to you. But then the more that you talk to him, those answers do show up or innately, you find the answer you figured out and that’s how he speaks to you. So keep talking to him.’
Despite what Kourtney’s lifestyle looks like on the outside, and that it doesn’t always look like what we think a ‘Christian’ should look like,’ Jesus is so for her!
As the church, we should be cheering the Kardashians on in their reading of God’s word, because it’s living and active and can transform lives. I’m going to add Khloe and Kourtney K to my prayer list this week and so should you!
