‘I feel so blessed that God has used me to share the Gospel. I am so grateful, I have realised my trials and messes have given me messages and hidden treasure, keys that might help someone else find freedom,’ says Sara Kenny.

Testify

As we were coming out of lockdown in January 2021, I was reading an online Bible plan about the book of Daniel. As I was pondering about Daniel’s life and his writings. I was thinking about how incredible his life experiences were. When did he decide to write it all down? Who found it? While questions were still running through my mind, I sensed an inner voice tell me to write my story.

I initially tried to bury that thought, I had never considered writing as being one of my gifts. I had also labelled myself as ‘not academic’, I did not have the patience or the skills to start writing. I thought to myself I must have mis-heard, who am I that God would speak to me anyway?

Later that day I listened to church online; the speaker began to talk about journalling. Three times she repeated ‘write it down’. It felt as if the words were being burned into my spirit. Another nudge came from my group leader. She posted a video in our group chat, ‘has anyone had a fresh word for the new year?’ she asked. mmm…. Could it be that ‘write it’, was my word?

‘Lord, if this is from you, you are going to have to shout it as I do not want to do it, but if it is your will, I will.’

‘Lord, if this is from you, you are going to have to shout it as I do not want to do it, but if it is your will, I will.’ I prayed. The confirmation came and I received a scripture that literally jumped out at me. Psalm 22:22 – I will declare your name to my people and in the assembly I will praise you. Once I read this scripture, I was completely convicted. That was it, I was going to write my testimony! My husband also encouraged me, ‘if it helps one person find Jesus for themselves, it will be worth it.’ I agreed and that’s where it began.

After the doubts came the fear, what will I write about? I am so average and ordinary? Do I have a story to tell? Would anyone want to read it? Is my testimony powerful enough to point other people to faith in Jesus? I released it in instalments in the form of a blog and a Christian friend agreed to read it and spell check, as well as give me feedback. The next challenge was, how do I share it? I set up a basic website and social media page called testify2222 to share a link. Then I prayed and trusted God that if I put it out there, the people God wanted to read it would find it.

Immediately after that prayer she found my blog and could relate so much to my struggles and feelings that I explained when coming to faith.

Within days of sharing my first blog titled ‘The knock’, I received a message and then a phone call from a lady who had come across it. She shared how she had been talking to someone, she thought might be God and she had asked for a sign. Immediately after that prayer she found my blog. She said she could relate to my struggles and feelings that I explained when coming to faith. I told her about my wrestle about sharing it and that my husband had encouraged me, she said well I think I may be the one you were writing it for. She has subsequently started attending church, serving and is on the journey. To God be all the glory!

There have been many more messages and conversations that followed that one, I feel so blessed that God has used me to share the Gospel. I am so grateful, I have realised my trials and messes have given me messages and hidden treasure, keys that might help someone else find freedom. I have opened up about battles with chronic health conditions, the gift of life, mental health, shining your light, unity and inclusion in the church. I consider my style of communication quite simple, I have received such encouragement from people at all points in their faith.

Isn’t it incredible how God uses each one of us to partner with him to bring his Kingdom here on earth! We all have a unique voice and help to reveal God’s Love in and colours to the world. So my challenge to you is…do you have a story to share?
