*I’d like to dedicate the first column in what I can only hope will be an enduring, edifying, thought-provoking, groundbreaking, Pulitzer Prize winning series to someone I once dated, who referred to my articles as ‘your little bits and pieces’. Cheers.

Hello gentle reader. Well, you might not be gentle. You might not be much of a reader, but you’re still very much welcome here. Let’s be honest, you’re probably more fun than the very gentle, very reader-y type people. Anyway, I’m Lizzie, and I find a lot of things funny. Myself, unfortunately, being high up that list. But as I aim to giggle through the unpredictable experience that is life, I’d love you to come with me, as I fill my word count.

Who am I? Your best friend. Your worst nightmare. Or someone in between.

Who am I? Your best friend. Your worst nightmare. Or someone in between. Hovering between the age-old parameters of things you fill your time with that are somewhat better than doom scrolling, but considerably worse than your quiet time. A moment of joy on a commute. A snigger over a flat white. A break from insta-stalking your ex. You’re welcome. Who am I really? Err… perfect time to deploy the Hinge bio. Tall, blonde, good sense of humour. Works as an advertising copywriter. Likes dancing, shopping, reading and a nice glass o’ rosé. Recently got into running, having slagged it off for many a year, and has had to rework personality and algorithms accordingly. Lives in South West London, works in Shoreditch and spends a lot of time and money travelling in between. Frequents a far too trendy church near home. Makes a good pie and a terrible omelette. Thinks Nandos is overrated. Loves anything sparkly. Hates pineapple on pizza.

Sure, but why have you got this gig Lizzie, you’re kind of annoying me already?

Sure, but why have you got this gig Lizzie, you’re kind of annoying me already? Fair point. Well, as I’ve written a lot for Woman Alive, they decided to make it official (glad someone has). I do actually do things with words for a living. And sometimes pop up on stage to do stand-up comedy. So it shouldn’t be thaaaat boring or thaaaaat badly written. My lawyer would like to add the disclaimer that any typos are there to check you’re awake. And any jokes that didn’t land are probably ChatGPT. Promise.

In this series, I’ll be waffling on each month about something that’s got me thinking. Sharing snippets of my life, thoughts and experiences. Topics might range from supplements to self-image. Dating, running, advertising, churching, or party-crashing. There may be the occasional deep thought. God moment. Or a thorough expounding of my philosophy on why you should always pack a bikini. I’m here for the extra bits of life. The side-splitting snorts, the profoundly painful punches, the reasonably mundane and of course, the existential crises. Can’t relate - haven’t had one… This week. So come along for the ride. Ask me any questions. Suggest things you’d like to hear about. And when I’m stuck on the Hammersmith & City line, I’ll try my best to ponder them. Welcome, gentlest of gentle reader-y readers, to The Lens.
