Emma M Emmanuel reminds us through Genesis 1:29 that God provided all we need for nourishment and healing. Her testimony reveals the enduring power of God’s natural provision.

In Genesis 1:29 God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food”. Did you know that God made provision for all our needs - for food, healing and our enjoyment - before putting us here on earth?
Many years ago, after I gave birth to my second son, I broke out with very bad psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune, incurable skin disease. This disease caused itchy scaly patches on my scalp and forehead. I would wash my hair each day and by the next day I would have large chunks of these scales on my scalp and forehead. I always had to have a scarf on. My doctor at the time tried everything from anti-biotics, steroid creams, to shampoos and every prescription moisturiser there was. Eventually she referred me to see a dermatologist. There was a bit of a wait for the appointment. During that period, a friend suggested I try aloe vera. My mother agreed reminding me that aloes were put on Jesus’ wounds when he was brought down from the cross (John 19:39-40).

I went to my local health shop and bought some pure Aloe Vera juice and had it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
I went to my local health shop and bought some pure aloe vera juice and had it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. For about a month or so. The result was phenomenal! My skin was glowing and my scalp and forehead fully restored. When I eventually went for the dermatologist appointment, he read through my medical file, took a look at me and said ‘I think I’ve got the wrong patient’. I happily proceeded to share my testimony! This was the beginning of my journey with God’s provision in nature.
The online dictionary defines food as: ‘Any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink, or that plants absorb, in order to maintain life and growth.’ Rest assured that if God gives you food, that food is good. If we eat the food given to us by our heavenly Father, we will walk in good health. However, we must understand that food does not go into our bodies through our mouth only. You may believe you have been eating a healthy diet but unknown to you, you may be feeding your body toxins through a different entry point besides your mouth - the skin.

Did you know that your skin is the largest organ your body has? Our bodies are fed a great deal through the pores of our skin. It is why the slogan for my natural skincare products has always been “if it’s not good enough to eat, it’s not good enough to go on your skin”. Ideally, our skincare products should be free from synthetic chemicals and harmful ingredients. It is important that we take the time to read the ingredients at the back of the bottle or jar of any product that goes on our skin as it eventually ends up in our blood stream. The same way you read the nutritional contents of your food items when you go grocery shopping is what should be done when shopping for your skincare products. It is important that we educate ourselves on the ingredients contained in the products we feed ourselves and our families.

Everything God created has a purpose. Every plant has a purpose. I have consistently said that God would not leave us on this planet (with all the problems he knew we would encounter) without providing the solutions to every problem we would come across. The aloes, as mentioned earlier, were used on Jesus’ wounds when he was brought down from the cross before burial (John 19: 39-40). Aloe Vera is well known for its healing properties.

Our God is an all-knowing God; and because our God is all-knowing, he knew Adam would fall. With Adams fall came curses. The fruits from the trees in the garden were filled with Gods goodness. The tree in the middle of the garden brought death. That is a simplified reason why we suffer ill health and physical death today. God also knew the repercussions that would follow the fall. Yet God still loved us so much that he had proactively provided all that we would need to take care of ourselves as we journey towards restoring our relationship with him here on earth. He did not create the medicinal properties in the plants after the fall of Adam, they were already there even before Adam needed them.
To take full advantage of this provision, we need knowledge. We need to know what is out there. The Bible says in Hosea 4:6 ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge’ - meaning that with knowledge, we are free from destruction. Commit to educating yourself in the next few series as I share some recipes you can try at home, and together let’s unlock the healing power of God’s provision in nature!
