Sophie Dianne reflects on the controversial story of a young influencer whose financial goals are tied to a future commitment to faith. Exploring the tension between wealth, intention, and true surrender, she considers what authentic discipleship really requires.

Autumn Renae is a high-earning digital content creator and influencer, who has gained attention for her quick financial success on adult site OnlyFans, where she reported earnings of nearly $7million.

Taking to X in January, Renae posted her income, with a statement that has started a debate, she said: “After I make $10,000,000 on Only Fans I’m retiring and becoming a full-time Christian.”

While others have left OnlyFans, flaunting their success with luxury lifestyles, or exiting due to burnout or scandal, the story of the American born 19-year-old, looks set to end with a Bible and a clean break. Renae said the decision is of deeply personal intent; believing she is divinely guided by a ‘spiritual promise.’

Her online presence began on TikTok, where she initially posted lifestyle content like prom dress videos and influencer-style vlogs. Before pivoting towards more suggestive content, having noticed that bikini pictures significantly boosted her engagement and follower count.

Noticing that she could raise money for college expenses, Renae began a career on OnlyFans.

Noticing that she could raise money for college expenses, Renae began a career on OnlyFans. Speaking of her experience she said: “I survived a shark attack when I was four years old. I’ve been through a lot. But I think everything happens for a reason, and I’ve learned more about myself along the way than I ever expected.”

When she started making content on the adult site, Renae attempted to keep it a secret by blocking her home state of Kentucky. It wasn’t long before content was leaked, eventually leading people to contact her parents online. As it turned out, her mother was indifferent but chose not to tell her husband (Renae’s father).

In a digital economy - fuelled by perfection - Renae has chosen transparency, posting a screenshot of her accumulated wealth

In a digital economy - fuelled by perfection - Renae has chosen transparency, posting a screenshot of her accumulated wealth, from January 2022 to late January this year. The image wasn’t filtered or edited, it was raw data, placed in front of her online audience. Y! entertainment has praised Renae for her honesty, believing it has challenged the assumptions of how creators make their money, demonstrating the labour intensity behind these ‘jobs.’

While subscriptions played a major role in her fast income, they were not the main driver. Renae credits conversations with ‘fans’ for her success; direct messages accounted for more than $4.4m of her net income, compared to the $2.5 million from subscriptions and tips.

Renae explained that the ‘end goal’ wasn’t random or performative but represented a finish line she felt compelled to honour. She said: “Ten million is my number. Once I hit that, I’m done. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I feel like God put that number on my heart for a reason. It’s not about the money at that point, but knowing I set a goal, I’ll reach it, and then I can close this chapter.”

Far be it for me to criticise Renae’s religious intensions, but as one comment said, “this plan isn’t the biblical path to Christianity.” God doesn’t buy into ultimatums or cheap tricks; He would prefer that she removed herself from this toxic industry now.

Autumn Renae reminds me of the young ruler in Matthew 19:21-22, Jesus told him, that “to be perfect, he must follow Him, sell his possessions and give to the poor.” In doing so, the young ruler will be promised heavenly treasure.

In Renae’s case, her post suggests that her love for wealth, is greater than her desire to follow Jesus. Serving as a reminder that ‘total devotion,’ requires placing ‘complete loyalty’ in God, over material security. In doing so we recognise that He is all we need, and His provision will sustain us indefinitely. It remains to be seen how far Renae goes on her spiritual journey or if this was just an empty statement.
