A message from Doll

Just over a year into my role as editor, I was undergoing intensive chemotherapy. This followed a major operation to remove one of my ovaries, but the surgery had not succeeded in stopping the cancer, which continued to spread indiscriminately through my abdomen and into the rest of my weary body.
When I needed someone to stand in for me at work, I reached out to a woman I had met at a worship night three years earlier. I had warmed to Jemimah immediately, and we had nurtured our friendship online. We were both journalists, often talking about our work and how wonderful it would be if our paths ever crossed professionally. Cancer was not part of any plan I had for my life, but God’s promise in Romans 8:28 began to unfold in unexpected ways as my extended sick leave created space for Jemimah to step in as acting editor.
I returned to work after miraculous healing, Jemimah remained as deputy editor, and the rest, as they say, is history. Five years on, this is sadly my final issue as editor of Woman Alive magazine, as God is calling me into something new. In the May issue, I spoke about being convicted by relationship podcast host Diane Tuffuoh on the subject of obedience, and I reached the point where I could no longer ignore the gentle but persistent stirring that it was time to move on from Premier.
We have worked as a very small team – Jemimah, my designer Sarah Ellen Brown, sub-editor and book club host Claire Musters, alongside our freelance writers, columnists and interviewees – to create a magazine and brand that I hope has honoured the vision held by Premier’s late CEO, Peter Kerridge, when Premier acquired Woman Alive in 2019.

I am deeply grateful to you, dear readers, for being part of this journey. Thank you for your subscriptions, your testimonies, your comments, likes, follows and feedback. Thank you for sharing our work with friends and neighbours, and for championing women’s ministry so faithfully.
I know you will join me in praying for Jemimah takes a lead on the future direction of the brand and all it will become!
