As the world celebrates Halloween, former occultist Elizabeth Klanga shares how what seemed like harmless fun once opened doors to real darkness — and how only Jesus brought her true freedom.
When I was in the occult, Halloween was my favourite time of year. I believed it was the night when the veil between the physical and spiritual realms was at its thinnest. The excitement of the crowds charged the atmosphere, making it easy for spirits to manifest in the natural world. On that night, we called on spirit guides through tarot, séances, and Ouija boards. As a medium, I would transfigure into Bastet, the ancient Egyptian cat goddess. Every person taking part became a willing vessel for spirits to inhabit. The power felt intoxicating, but it was counterfeit.
