Alison Hammond, the beloved British television personality, has long been celebrated for her infectious energy and warmth, but did you know she is also a Christian? Alison, 50, was interviewed for the ‘A life in the day of’ article in The Sunday Times magazine on the 11th May, where she spoke about her reliance on the Bible.

She said: “My Bible is my guide to life. If I don’t have the book with me, I pull up a psalm on my phone. Faith is the most important thing in my life and one reason behind my success. Nothing worries me. In good times or bad, I’ve got God to lean on.”

This is not the first time Alison Hammond has spoken about her faith. Premier Christian news reported in June 2023 that she spoke about using “the Bible as a Sat Nav” as she worked out how to deal with the fallout following colleague Philip Schofield’s revelations of an affair and his resignation from the This Morning.

When discussing the departure of Phillip Schofield from the show, Hammond became visibly emotional. She expressed her conflicted feelings, stating, “I’m finding this really painful. I loved Phillip Schofield. It’s weird because I still love Phillip Schofield.” In that moment, she invoked her mother’s teachings, quoting the Bible to emphasize compassion and understanding. She recalled her mother’s advice to “use the Bible as your sat nav,” which helped her navigate the complex emotions surrounding the situation.

Raised in Birmingham, Alison was instilled with Christian values from a young age. She has said, “Every morning we would have to say ‘Thank you,’” referring to the practice of expressing gratitude to God upon waking. This daily ritual, she explains, taught her the importance of appreciation and has been instrumental in shaping her positive outlook on life. Hammond credits this upbringing with fostering a deep sense of gratitude that she carries into her adult life.

She said in The Times article: “I’m grateful for my faith and for things that happen in my life but I don’t really reflect on my journey. I love my life whether I’m interviewing Tom Cruise or cleaning my house. You have to give thanks. Always.”

Alison Hammond first gained national attention in 2002 as a contestant on Channel 4’s Big Brother. Although she was evicted after 11 days, her infectious personality and humour left a lasting impression on viewers. This exposure led to opportunities in television presenting and acting.

Her mother, Maria, was a devout Christian who read the Bible nightly and attended church regularly. Hammond fondly remembers her mother’s wisdom, noting that Maria would often provide guidance from scripture during times of trouble.

Reflecting on her personal life, Hammond acknowledges the challenges she has faced, including the loss of her mother in 2020 to lung and liver cancer and her father shortly thereafter. Despite these hardships, she remains grateful for the lessons learned and the strength gained. She expresses deep appreciation for her body and her son, Aidan, now 20, viewing them as gifts. This perspective, she believes, has been pivotal in maintaining her resilience and positivity.

Alison finished the recent Sunday Times magazine interview talking about the end of her day: “I’ll read a couple of psalms, probably 23 and 91 as they’re really beautiful.”
