pp3_July2025_Prayer&Reflection

A few years ago, I faced a challenging situation at one of my sons’ schools. After some reflection, I decided to write a letter, as it allowed me to clarify my thoughts and include everything that concerned me. The headmistress at the time was very supportive and said that I was my son’s advocate; if I didn’t advocate for him, who else would? The word advocate resonated with me then and still does today.

It got me thinking about how Jesus advocates for us, interceding on our behalf with God the Father. When we pray and surrender to God’s will, life is so much fuller, so much brighter. There are always two paths before us: God’s will or our will. It makes sense to choose the path that leads to true serenity. Prayer strengthens direction: it is the loving connection between humanity and the divine, offering us hope and support throughout our lives. The term ‘advocate’ carries a powerful meaning. It signifies someone who passionately speaks or writes in support of another, acting as their defender and ally, ensuring that their voice is heard and their rights are protected. Jesus is our ultimate advocate.

So when someone speaks ill of you, belittles you or puts you down, do not rise to it. Instead, respond with love. Easier said than done, right? Hebrews 7:25 states: “Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them.” Psalm 127:3 reminds us: “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” We are reminded that it is our responsibility to protect all children.

Having open conversations with loved ones, especially children, can boost and nurture strength. I’ve discovered that sharing my experiences helps my sons, and that resilience grows through honesty. Bullies often thrive on fear and tend to isolate their victims. It’s essential to collaborate in developing a plan to address bullying. Bullies take many forms and, sadly, their presence doesn’t disappear after the school years. They can lurk in workplaces, online spaces and even in our communities, reminding us that their reach extends far beyond the classroom.

There is a solution. Don’t suffer in silence! Talk to a trustworthy friend. Sharing your concerns benefits everyone involved. Guiding each other through challenging times requires engaging in meaningful discussions over an extended period. We cannot rush this process. We have choices, and turning toward God helps us alleviate any pain.

Yesterday, I faced a difficult situation and made a deliberate choice. Today, I went for a long walk with a close friend. I feel blessed to have a strong support network, and I trust in God. He is always there for us.

Almighty Father, fill our hearts with

hope as Christ advocates for us.

We pray for those who bully; may

God’s love heal us all and bring peace.

Through your merciful Spirit,

reign peace upon this world.

The echoes of ancestral pain

resonate into today.

Lord, cleanse us of past hurts: today is a new day, inspiring us to live by your example.

Loving Father, we walk forward by

trusting in you.

Please help us to seek faith and

the foundations of forgiveness.

Almighty Father, strengthen our

convictions to advocate for one another.

The world is a gift that we are blessed to share.

Spread your bounty among those most in need and help us all to help one another.

Thank you, oh Lord.

Amen.
