It’s often said a problem shared is a problem solved, and who better to share concerns with than God? Through prayer and meditation, I have found much solace. In Joshua 1:9, we are encouraged to heed God’s commandment: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This is true, however, sometimes I forget and go about trying to solve things on my own.

It’s easy to find quick fixes in the modern world, with all its gadgetry, self-help books and information overload. Being still is becoming more challenging. So there I stood a few days ago; I was genuinely concerned about one of my sons. He was adamant that he didn’t need to go to school anymore, an idea that had been gaining momentum; he’s seven. I spoke with his teacher, and her kindness and genuine concern were palpable. I hadn’t put a clear boundary in with my son, for I always encourage my children to share their feelings; nonetheless, as I hadn’t experienced this before, I prayed for some guidance. The experienced headmistress then phoned and, within ten minutes, the problem was resolved. The next day my son hopped into school. Of course, I know

there will be more challenges, though I felt truly thankful for that day’s breakthrough. With God, I know I am in good hands – as is my family.

Lord God, help us to trust and listen to your guidance, to be calm and quiet, so we may understand that your love flows in all life.

Let us live by your name and through your love, making good choices throughout the day.

May you grace us with everlasting light that restores and rejuvenates.

Merciful God, forgive us and heal past pain, so that we may face each day anew and grow in courage, strength and harmony.

You are the only true God; let us be vessels for your message.

In each moment, hold us near, that we may always accept your love, and be patient

and faithful.

Amen.
