A message from Doll

We made it! Spring is here and not a second too early. Once upon a time, the Roman calendar had only ten months. Apparently, the early Romans didn’t bother counting the dead of winter. Instead, they began their new year in spring, when new things are growing and when, if we are honest, most of us finally feel like voluntarily leaving the house outside of work hours.
So hello new month and new year and Mother’s Day and International Women’s Day!
In this latest issue, we are talking about the sacrifice of motherhood (Sinead McLeod’s prayer and reflection on page 3), the struggle to face the growing reality of self-harm among young women (Rachel Allcock’s long read on page 13) and in our Life Lessons piece (where we hear from women over 70), author Lavinia Byrne tells us about living in community as a nun and speaking out about the role of women in the Church.

Because we pay attention to and give space to women experiencing both the joys and losses in life, you will also read about a woman who gave birth naturally aged 49 (page 18), and another woman who recently experienced yet another miscarriage (page 28).
If you are struggling with any of the above, please choose carefully when you sit down with this edition.
Much love to you all.
