A message from Doll
Summer always feels like a celebratory season to me, and we have much to celebrate in this issue. On page 18, we have a special, in print only, moving testimony from our wonderful sponsor, Mercy Ships. A toddler born with a hernia has been enabled, through your donations, to have surgery which saved her life! And if you’re heading to any weddings this summer – or having one of your own – our interview with Jessie Watson is sure to inspire you. Jessie launched her business in 2023 and has already provided flowers for over 60 weddings. Interested in booking her for yours? Read here, and remember to let Jessie know where you found her story.
While this issue’s WA Plus, on ‘Untold stories of motherhood’, may not seem like a joyful subject, our entire team did a silent clap for our writer Dr Sarah Louise Hurst for bringing this subject to the fore. As a perinatal clinical psychologist, she says that the post-birth experience can be particularly hard on Christian women who are expected to see childbirth as a blessing and nothing else. Read the stories she shares, and the biblical wisdom she unfolds, here.
Also in this issue: a surfing granny in Hawaii, advice on fostering and adopting, and not one but two devotional books featured in the Book Club this month:
Beloved is Where We Begin by Rachel Newham
Be Still: 3- Devotions For Those Who Feel Anything But by Lucy Rycroft
All that and more – you’re welcome!
Love and blessings,
