Beauty, fame and success are hard things for humans to carry, and Nicole Scherzinger has all three. Jemimah Wright discovered how the former Pussycat Doll’s faith keeps her grounded, and why she is not ashamed to tell the world about it.
Nicole Scherzinger, former member of the Pussy Cat Dolls (2003–2010, 2019–2021) and judge on The X Factor USA and UK and Australia’s Got Talent, was recently interviewed by my favourite podcaster, (after Tola Doll Fisher and the Woman Alive podcast of course) and author, Elizabeth day.
In the interview, Nicole, 45, mentions her faith a few times. She said:
‘For me, I am very spiritual, so I like to say that God has bigger plans, and a bigger imagination than we could ever [have]. We actually limit ourselves with how we think.’

Scherzinger was born in Honolulu (and is of Filipino and Hawaiian-Ukrainian descent), she grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and was brought up Catholic. She has been reported as saying she still attends church at least twice a week, either in person or online.
In 2014 Nicole spoke about her religious beliefs to ITV’s Lorraine Kelly. She said, “I have a very strong faith”.
She admitted battling with bulimia in the past, and said to Lorraine she felt it “important” to speak out about her troubled past to help those going through the same thing. She said: “I had the courage to finally confront it and talk about it because then I realised I could help other people.
“I was afraid at first but it’s so rewarding to be able to have some of my fans and other people come to me and I can be a voice, I can be a light for them to fight back…Everybody gets in that dark head space and you just have to fight back and there is a better way.”
Her faith and trust in a loving God was put to the test in October 2019.
She added that it was her faith in God that helped her get back on track: “I have a very strong faith and an amazing family and good people around me.”

In an Instagram post, Nicole wrote: ‘I ask that whoever did this, has the dignity and strength to come forward. Our God is a loving and forgiving God, but I pray for justice for John Boy and closure for my family.’
When Elizabeth Day asked Nicole about how she coped with the pressures of fame, she said: “My faith keeps me super grounded.”
Fame and faith must make difficult bed mates. We are not made to be worshiped, but to be a famous singer, means, that in essence you are worshiped and adored by your fans.

We have heard of the emptiness of fame – Jack Higgens, author of such successful novels and The Eagle Has Landed which sold more than 50 million copies and was adapted into a successful 1976 movie of the same title, was asked what he would like to have known as a boy. His answer: “That when you get to the top, there’s nothing there.”
So in all her fame, beauty and success, it is very encouraging to see that Nicole Scherzinger has a faith that keeps her grounded. May it continue to grow and flourish, and may she be used by God to be a blessing to the media industry she is part of.
