From Lil Nas to Sam Smith, the demonic is now on trend for the rich and famous, but writer Maxine Harrison says that many, like Blac Chyna, are also being public with their faith in Jesus.

We’ve all heard about rumoured satanic rituals and celebrities participating in the dark side. But typically, these have been more disguised or less overtly showcased. However, there is seemingly an increased trend of entertainers actively forefronting satanic imagery through their music or art discipline.

From Sam Smith’s 2022 Unholy music video, which features scenes of the singer wearing a horned hat prompting imagery of the devil, to Lil Nas X’s recently released J CHRIST music video on 12th Jan, which features an array of biblical imagery contrasting heaven and hell but with a seemingly mocking tone as the 24-year-old artist is seen on a crucifix cross and playing basketball with the devil. Honestly, who could make this up?

And yet, although the video received controversy, the industry deceptively painted the picture of it simply being artistic.

Interestingly, though, with the trend of entertainers openly parading the darkness they are a part of, there has also been a rise of entertainers speaking out against these acts.

“They are trying to normalise the devil. The devil is on main stage at award shows and in every video and signs and symbols”,

Fast and Furious actor Tyrese Gibson went viral about exposing these acts in his 2023 interview with Big Boi TV . Accompanying this, he also spoke about his faith and desire to pursue God in his life. “They are trying to normalise the devil. The devil is on main stage at award shows and in every video and signs and symbols”, said Tyrese.

He continued: “We need to stop treating our relationship with Jesus like the little buddy you talk to before you go to bed at night and not be more vocal about all the things that God means to us and…has brought us through”. Gibson has since had a series of interviews where he has continued to speak about Jesus and denounce the dark tactics in the industry.

In 2023, influencer Blac Chyna very publicly shared that she got baptised and was pursuing a relationship with God

And he is not the only one. In 2023, influencer Blac Chyna very publicly shared that she got baptised and was pursuing a relationship with God. The former OnlyFans model and mother of Rob Kardashian’s daughter shared in an interview on 5th Jan this year about why she is no longer on the site, she said: “As far as God-likeliness, I don’t want to be taken accountable for the decisions of something that was negative. Meaning if somebody sees me making whatever amount of money on OnlyFans, you know how many other women are going to go and run and do OnlyFans because they see that I’m making this money and that’s a negative thing. So guess what, I am going to be held accountable for that come judgement day”.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the interview with comedian Katt Williams with Club Shay Shay that seemed to break the internet on 3rd Jan this year, with over 49M views. Williams claimed that P.Diddy invited him to sex parties with an offer of $50M multiple times. “I’ve had to turn down $50M four times…just to protect my integrity”, said Katt. He continued: “Because P.Diddy be wanting to party and you got to tell him no”. Whether or not Katt’s claims are true, the viral reaction to the interview further highlights a theme of exposure in the entertainment industry.

So, as Christians, what can we learn as more of the enemy’s tactics are revealed in the entertainment industry? And what sources can we trust?

Well, the fact that some artists are openly showing satanic imagery should make it easier for us to distinguish whose content we should and shouldn’t engage with.

But regarding claims being made that we are unsure are true, we should lean more into praying for God’s guidance and ask Him to give us wisdom for what we choose to consume and the effects it could have on us (knowingly or unknowingly).

The scripture Matthew 6:22-23 reads “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” This highlights how what we watch can affect our whole body. We’ve heard of the saying you are what you eat, and this same principle can be applied to what we consume through our eyes and ears, too.
