Let’s say thank you!
4 July has been set aside as national Thank You Day – is there someone you would like to thank?
I think we can all agree that the last 15 months have been super tough. We have faced enormous challenges and limitations. Some have worked around the clock; others of us have been furloughed for huge lengths of time, or sadly lost our jobs. And we have all been touched by grief.
In the midst of the bleakness, there were those who brightened our days – individuals who really made a difference to our lives.
The idea for a Thank You Day was proposed by 13 individuals but now hundreds of organisations are supporting it, and celebrities, religious leaders and sports stars, councils, schools and businesses around the UK are getting involved.
The Woman Alive community
Here at Woman Alive we want to get involved too – and give you the chance to say thank you to anyone who has had a significant impact on you or your family during the pandemic – or who simply made you smile regularly in the months of lockdown.
You can post a thank you to any of our social media handles (see below) and we will also be posting a thread in the Woman Alive Book Club.
In the run up to 4 July we will choose a selection of your ‘thank yous’ to share across social media, and on our blog.
From our team
To give you an idea of the sort of thing we mean, here are some from a few of the team behind Woman Alive:
“I would like to thank my school friend Abigail. We have known each other since we were twelve. When my dad died in November last year, and my mum and I were snowed in at home, she sent Cook vouchers month by month. It was such a generous act of support, which really kept us going through the long cold months of lockdown and winter!”
Jemimah Wright, acting editor and features writer
“Thank you to Debbie, a lovely woman from church. I had shared with her how much I had missed getting plants for my garden whilst ’sheltering'. When the local garden centre organised a local pick-up for online orders, she was straight round there to fill up her car with lilies and geraniums for me!”
Elaine Storkey, WA Bible Study writer
“Thank you to my sister Vicki for caring so well for our dad during lockdown. Our mum passed away just before COVID hit and Vicki lives near him so bubbled with him to make sure he wasn’t on his own. I live far away, which was hard, but lovely to know they could be together and he was being looked after.”
Claire Musters, editorial consultant, features writer and sub editor
“Thank you to Ali, Anne and Julie, who pray for me on a daily basis. I so often quote Alfred, Lord Tennyson: ‘More things are wrought by prayer than the world dreams of’ – and this is so true of these three faithful prayer people. I’m more grateful than they’ll ever know.”
Amy Boucher Pye, host of the Woman Alive Book Club
“I’d love to say thank you to my mum and dad! I worked in Dad’s study for a while when the pandemic first hit, then he converted my old bedroom into my now office. They’ve both listened to my moaning as I struggled with not seeing friends and family. They’re always there for me and encourage me to always look for the positives and not give up.
