Is it time to celebrate?
Editorial from June 2020
This month, Premier Radio celebrates its 25th birthday – an incredible achievement as we saw from the interview with CEO Peter Kerridge in the May issue. The journey has not been plain sailing, and while this virus throws up even more curveballs for the Premier family, we remain encouraged by your support that means we are still very much alive and well, even through these testing times.
As I write this, we have not felt much like celebrating as our families and friends suffer loss of income, loneliness from isolation, stress from fear and worry, illness and even death. But as I trampled home through the rain yesterday, I was bemoaning all these things when I came across a beautiful rainbow on the ground. I looked up and I saw another rainbow in the sky as the clouds began to part. Later, as I scrolled through social media, I saw countless other posts of other beautiful rainbow sightings. We know that the rainbow symbolises God’s promise to the world that he would not destroy it again in the way he did with the Flood. It has become a message of hope that children in the UK (and perhaps around the world) have been drawing, painting and sticking in windows and on doors for all to see and be encouraged by.
A friend sent me a link to an article by psychotherapist Esther Perel. Her message was that in a time of unimaginable death, we can be reminded how to live. And we have a truer message from God in John 10:10, in which Jesus says: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
It’s so important to be able to look around and find hope in what God is doing in this time, and where he is bringing life and restoring us. I personally have had some long-term dreams realised and one of those is that my book, aptly titled Still Standing, is released this month. Born from journals of hard-won lessons in the wilderness period, God reminded me recently that the words he gave me should be passed on, to encourage others. Read the interview with Claire Musters on page 10. You can find the full content list for this issue on pages 4-5, with a special prayer on page 7.
My current favourite scripture is in Romans 15:13, which reads: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” And that is my prayer for you today.
